Alentejo Science and Technology Park develops action plan to respond to the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine
1 April 2022
PACT, in the context of the humanitarian crisis currently plaguing Ukraine, has sought to draw up a plan with concrete measures that help to minimize the various shortages caused by this conflict. So far, it has collected about 500 kilos of essential goods, which have already been sent to Ukraine, but there is a set of initiatives lined up for the coming months.
“We have been in solidarity with Ukraine from the very beginning and in direct contact with the Ukrainian community in Évora, with the aim of understanding how we can be useful at a time when it is the most innocent who are suffering”, says Soumodip Sarkar, Executive President of PACT.
As part of this most immediate package of initiatives is the organization of a solidarity dinner, which will take place on April 8 and whose proceeds will be channeled into the purchase of medicines and first aid material that will go to Ukraine; the creation of job offers, preferably in the IT area; and the provision of two free jobs for one year in the PACT coworking space for refugees Ukrainian. Measures that will be articulated with the competent entities, namely through the Portugal for Ukraine platform created by the Government.
The organization will also provide mentoring sessions for entrepreneurs displaced from Ukraine who wish to develop their project in Portugal, with a special focus on the Alentejo region. The Executive President says that “on a daily basis we already give this type of support to entrepreneurs who come to us because they want to benefit from our ecosystem, either to be aware of financing opportunities, because they need support in the development of their project, or even from a perspective of facilitating contacts and so it makes perfect sense for us to emphasize this offer to these refugee entrepreneurs, who arrive in a fragile situation and who may need more help to continue their business in Portugal.”
Sarkar also says that “these are just a few steps in a plan that will evolve as more needs are identified in which we have the ability to be part of the solution”.
