Completed the “AlentEdge Roadshow: Intellectual Property”, developed by PACT in partnership with INVENTA
23 July 2024
The event went to higher education institutions in Alentejo to raise awareness of the importance of registering intellectual property rights. The Roadshow, organized in partnership with INVENTA and the higher education institutions in the region, comprised four sessions held on July 9, 10 at the Polytechnic Institutes of Santarém and Beja, respectively, and on July 17, at the Polytechnic Institute of Portalegre and the University of Évora.
This initiative contributed to the promotion of a culture of innovation focused on the valorization of knowledge through the registration of intellectual property (IP), by raising awareness in the academic community, with special attention to teachers and research centers, and sharing information about opportunities and support for protection processes, including the services provided by the AlentEdge Office that include comprehensive support in the exploitation of IP rights at prices throughout the Alentejo region.
Throughout the four sessions, representatives of higher education institutions discussed the importance of developing and protecting knowledge and technologies to enjoy the results of scientific research. Considering that the process of obtaining and transferring patents is long and expensive, financial and institutional support was one of the points highlighted, being crucial for these technologies to effectively benefit the institution and society. In addition, the sessions addressed how patents can attract new research projects and provide significant support for scientific research, encouraging teachers to follow this path.
Luís Caixinhas, Patent Engineer at INVENTA, conducted an informative oratory about the processes of registration of Industrial Property rights, addressing and clarifying the audience about patent applications, registration of designs and trademarks, in an open and dynamic conversation with the participants of each institution, demonstrating the relevance that IP registration has for technological and knowledge advancement.
Tiago Teotónio Pereira, Executive Member of the Alentejo 2030 Regional Program, was one of the personalities who accompanied the roadshow and considers the intellectual property support services offered by the Office as “one of the missing pieces in the Alentejo regional innovation ecosystem”, contributing to achieving the 50 patent registrations defined as a goal under the Alentejo 2030 Regional Program.
In partnership with CCDR-Alentejo, PACT is responsible for the operational coordination of the governance model of the Regional Strategy for Smart Specialization (EREI 2030) where, together with the Regional Innovation Platforms – a central instrument for boosting the EREI 2030 Strategy through the implementation of entrepreneurial discovery processes – it will contribute to support the design of public policies adapted to the needs of the territory.
The first edition of the AlentEdge Roadshow was attended by more than 60 people and, together with CCDR-Alentejo and INVENTA, a new edition is planned, this time focused on students. This roadshow was only the first awareness-raising action with higher education institutions, and it is expected to continue the collaboration with these entities in related actions.
