FAROTIC completes and fulfills all objectives: PACT supported companies in their digital transformation

FAROTIC, a project started in 2019 and co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund ERDF, through the Interreg V-A España-Portugal Program (POCTEP) 2014-2020, ends with the objectives fulfilled.
This project, in which PACT participated, had as its main objective the strengthening of existing support services in EUROACE (Euroregion consisting of Central Portugal, Alentejo and Spanish Extremadura), being aligned with one of the strategic areas of PACT – Industry 4.0. Through the creation of a Network of Lighthouses, companies and entrepreneurs have been supported in the development of new products with high added value and based mainly on blockchain technologies, cybersecurity and big data.
The success of the project resulted from the various initiatives developed, namely:
The creation of a methodology for the development of the information and communication technology (ICT) sector in the EUROACE region;
The creation of the DiagnosTICs program, through which 242 diagnoses focused on the use of ICT in companies (176) and entrepreneurial projects (66) were carried out in the Euroregion;
45 training sessions on new technologies, which had more than 200 participants;
The development of the ExperTIC program where, through a network of experts in the ICT sector created within the scope of the project, 100 business projects were accompanied in the definition of the business idea and in the identification of new products and services;
Actions aimed at supporting the search for and access to financing, with 38 companies supported, and 50 companies trained and advised to participate in international bids;
The development of a search tool for ICT financing instruments;
Mentoring activities for 36 projects in the design of new products; organization of actions for the development of new software or applications in 13 projects;
The creation of the FAROTIC Observatory – a web platform for technological surveillance that has a technical forum on blockchain technology, cybersecurity and big data, and
participation in events dedicated to the central theme of the project, namely Web Summit 22 and South Summit 2022, among others.

The initiatives relied on the cooperation work of all the entities that were part of the consortium made up of several actors from Portugal and Spain and led by Extremadura Avante, S.L.U, including PACT, the Cámara Oficial de Comercio, Industria y Servicios de Badajoz, the Official Chamber of Commerce, Industry and Services of Cáceres, the Center for Energy, Environmental and Technological Research, the University of Extremadura, the University of Beira Interior, the Center for Business Innovation of Beira Interior, and the National Association of Young Entrepreneurs.
