PACT raises more than 600 kg of WEEE in a recycling awareness campaign that brought together different local entities in Évora

30/1/2026

Together with the Portuguese Association of Parents and Friends of the Mentally Handicapped Citizen of Évora, the Business Center of the Évora Region, Gesamb, and ERP Portugal, the Alentejo Science and Technology Park promoted a campaign for the collection and recycling of waste electrical and electronic equipment, which resulted in the recycling of 670 kg of WEEE and 32 kg of batteries,  as well as in the attribution of a donation in the amount of €250 to APPACDM in Évora.

From November 24, 2025 to January 9, 2026, APPACDM in Évora, PACT, and NERE functioned as collection points for small electrical and electronic equipment, as well as batteries, and APPACDM also ensured the collection of large household appliances. The collection and forwarding of waste was ensured by ERP Portugal, which also guaranteed the attribution of a financial contribution to APPACDM in Évora.

Started during the European Week for Waste Reduction, this campaign aimed to make the Évora community aware of the environmental consequences, specifically for the soil and water sources, of the incorrect treatment of equipment such as mobile phones, small and large appliances or computers when they are not properly disposed of, and at the same time, encourage reuse practices,  collection, treatment and recycling.

“Every piece of electrical equipment or battery that is correctly sent for recycling makes a direct contribution to the protection of the environment and our natural resources. This campaign demonstrates that, when institutions, companies and the community work together, it is possible to generate a positive environmental impact and, at the same time, create social value for the territory”, says Rosa Monforte, general manager of ERP Portugal.

“As the Circular Economy is one of our strategic areas, initiatives that directly involve the community are fundamental to strengthen our position as promoters of a more sustainable Alentejo”, says Soumodip Sarkar, Executive President of PACT. “This action was also an opportunity to consolidate strategic relationships with the regional stakeholders with whom we collaborated”, he adds.

WEEE currently has one of the lowest recycling rates among different waste streams. Portugal appears as the third country in the European Union with the lowest collection rate, with only 28.3% of electrical and electronic equipment placed on the market being collected in 2023.

This campaign was part of the eWAsTER project, led by PACT, and co-financed by the European Union through the Interreg Euro-MED 2021–2027 Programme.
